Supplement study units on botany and bugs with our fun, easy-to-use rubbing plates. You can use a variety of media to transfer the plate images: rub crayons over a sheet of paper placed on top of a plate for a rubbing; lay a sheet of paper over a painted plate, rub gently and lift off for a print; or press clay into the plate, remove and dry it for a mold.
Our 6" x 9" Organics Rubbing Plates can be "tiled" to create a design that can be moved in any direction to continue a seamless overall pattern. Eight designs explore organic textures and patterns.
The sixteen 4-1/2" x 6-1/2" Insect Rubbing Plates depict dragonfly, cicada, ladybug, bumblebee, scarab beetle, monarch and swallowtail butterfly, Luna moth, wasp, ant, cockroach, fly, mosquito, cerambycid and stag beetle, and grasshopper.
The sixteen 4" x 5" Leaf Rubbing Plates include impressions of ginkgo, sycamore, river birch, tulip poplar, linden, sugar maple, sassafras, sweet gum, buckeye, hickory, dogwood, holly, box elder, willow, white oak, and elm tree leaves (several with seeds).
The fifteen 4" x 5" Flower Rubbing Plates are cosmos, morning glory, calla lily, gardenia, hydrangea, iris, lily, marigold, sunflower, tulip, water lily, rose, cactus flower, hibiscus, and gazania.
All sets include great educational activity ideas, such as creating a North American leaf guidebook, exploring plant origins, or learning about insect habitats.
