Designing and building a self-contained classroom ecosystem has never been easier! Our latest Hexagonal Aquatic Ecosystem is substantially bigger than our original Square Aquatic Ecosystem and grows a significantly more diverse ecosystem. Made from tough 1/4" clear acrylic, each hexagonal cell is 15" wide x 20" high and holds 15 gallons of water. Leak-proof bulkhead fittings connect cells. Group them in a circle to view the cells from all sides, or save space with a linear formation (see inset illustration) against a wall or window. We offer 3-cell and 4-cell ecosystems.

Start the Hexagonal Ecosystem with plants, animals, and gravel from local environments. You can also purchase a redeemable coupon for our Starter Kit (pondwater, mud, and aquatic plants), and gravel if not locally available (gravel is integral to the functioning of the system). Comes with a UL-listed air pump, tubing, fittings, and 7 lesson plans for hands-on classroom activities. The instruction manual explains how to establish the living ecosystem and includes background information on biology and water chemistry.

In the linear setup (inset illustration), a tube (not shown) connects tank four to tank one to make the system self-sustaining.
